UNIFY — Unit for Family, Diversity & Equality Diversity
Heidelberg University sees the idea of diversity as a contemporary translation of its traditional motto - SEMPER APERTUS - always open. Openness applies to ideas, and people regardless of their gender, age, origin or religious beliefs. The university values its people’s diversity and regards it as a rich source of creativity and innovation.
By treating difference and diversity with respect and appreciation, the Ruperto Carola contributes to equal opportunities and also offers its students the opportunity to prepare for their professional future in an ever-changing, increasingly diverse world.
Offering all university members fair opportunities in education, study, research and administration means creating awareness of unequal conditions and power relations, breaking down barriers, and taking measures to promote diverse potentials. The University’s concept of diversity aims to actively and creatively embrace the cultural richness brought about by internationality and interdisciplinarity in research and teaching.
Diversity Consulting
A competent approach to diversity in everyday work and study life, in research projects, in recruitment, in reporting or in tenders for third-party funding is a decisive factor for successful cooperation and an inclusive organisational culture. This requires a great deal of knowledge and sensitivity and, above all, a willingness to learn. We support university members and institutions in questions relating to diversity, be it in the planning and implementation of diversity measures, the review of diversity aspects in research proposals or general questions on dealing with heterogeneity and (in)equalities in the university context.
Diversity-Konzept 2024-2029
As part of a months-long participation process, preparatory work for a new diversity concept for the university began in spring 2023. Text analyses, qualitative interviews, workshops on the individual dimensions and working meetings of the Diversity Steering Group prepared the basis for the new concept, which was approved by the Rectorate in mid-July 2024. In a final step before publication, it will be presented to the Senate and University Council committees in September. The concept is expected to be available to view here at the end of Sempember.
