Heidelberg University has long recognised that equality for female researchers is one of the fundamental prerequisites for achieving and maintaining excellence in science. Accordingly, an environment that offers equal opportunities for female students and researchers is ensured in all areas of the University's work.

The Equal Opportunities Officer and UNIFY, together with decentralised actors, are responsible for equality in the academic sphere at the university.

Equal Opportunities Commissioner at Heidelberg University

The University Equal Opportunities Officer is responsible for equality between women and men in science and studies in accordance with the State Higher Education Act. Professor Dr Christiane Schwieren is supported by UNIFY in carrying out her duties as University Equal Opportunities Commissioner.

Equality in the faculties

Each faculty has its own equal opportunities officers who serve as direct contacts for students and academics. They represent the University Equal Opportunities Commissioner in the faculty councils and committees, particularly in appointment procedures.
