UNIFY — Unit for Family, Diversity & Equality Diversity
Heidelberg University sees the idea of diversity as a contemporary translation of its traditional motto SEMPER APERTUS - always open. This openness applies to ideas and people, regardless of their gender, age, origin or faith. The university values the human diversity that characterises it and regards it as a rich source of creativity and innovation.
By treating difference and diversity with respect and appreciation, Ruperto Carola contributes to equal opportunities and also offers its students the opportunity to prepare for a professional future in an ever-changing, increasingly diverse world.
Offering all members of the university fair opportunities in education, study, research and administration means creating an awareness of unequal conditions and power relations, breaking down barriers and taking measures to promote all potentials. The aim of the university's diversity strategy is to actively and creatively embrace the cultural change brought about by internationality and interdisciplinarity in research and teaching.

Queer Counselling
Queer counselling at UNIFY is available to anyone with questions about LGBTQIA+ issues in a confidential setting. Further information on queer counselling can be found on the counselling webpage.
Diversity Consulting
Competent handling of diversity in everyday work and study, in research projects, in recruitment, in reporting or in calls for proposals from third-party funding providers is a decisive factor for successful cooperation and an inclusive organisational culture. This requires a great deal of knowledge and sensitivity and, above all, the willingness to learn. We support university members and institutions with questions relating to diversity, whether it be planning and implementing diversity measures, reviewing diversity aspects in research proposals or general questions about dealing with heterogeneity and (in)equalities in a university context.
Diversity Strategy 2024-2029
In spring 2023, the preparatory work for a new diversity strategy for the university began in the context of a month-long participation process. Text analyses, qualitative interviews, workshops on the individual aspects and meetings of the Diversity Strategy Group prepared the basis for the new concept, which was approved by the Rectorate in mid-July 2024. In a final step before publication, it will be presented to the Senate and University Council committees in September. The concept is expected to be available here at the end of Sempember.
