Focus on teaching Diversity in university teaching
Engaging with diversity in an academic context contributes significantly to excellent teaching and research. Diversity-sensitive teaching reduces barriers and helps students reach their full potential. Taking diversity into account in research is now a standard requirement of major third-party funding providers.
By incorporating diverse perspectives into research questions and research design, the university fulfils its fundamental mission and contributes to social progress in a heterogeneous society with innovative findings.
In addition to regularly compiling gender and diversity courses, UNIFY offers a toolbox for diversity-sensitive university teaching, as well as further training and advice.

Diversity Innovations
As part of the programme, UNIFY finances teaching assignments from all institutes that deal specifically with aspects of diversity such as gender, age, cultural or ideological background, socio-economic origin, disability/chronic illness and sexual orientation or their intersection (intersectionality). Applications from the STEM fields are particularly welcome!
Application and approval process
Please send an informal application by email to unify@uni-heidelberg.de with a description of the content of the planned teaching assignment and the teacher. Applications can be submitted at any time.
Diversity-sensitive university teaching toolkit
Diversity sensitivity in teaching means recognising and embracing the diversity of students. This also goes hand in hand with an awareness that not all students have the same resources or are exposed to discrimination. The toolkit contains a set of information for the LSF, PowerPoint slides that can be played on a loop at the beginning of lectures and seminars, a teaching video for lecturers, and further tips and recommendations. The kit is currently being revised and will then be made available here for all interested parties.
Further training with twice the benefit
UNIFY events with a teaching focus can be credited towards the Baden-Württemberg Certificate for University Didactics after consultation with the HeiSkills - Teaching and Learning department.
