Thematic Research Network TRN Gender & Queer Studies

The network is funded as a Thematic Research Network under Field of Focus 3, Priority Area 3 “Mensch und Mensch” as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments. Duration: 09/2025–12/2026.

The TRN Gender & Queer Studies aims to promote the research perspectives of Gender & Queer Studies within the university and to connect them with existing research. Using a gender- and queer-theoretical approach, the network aims to diversify and critically reflect on existing research topics at the university, as well as to develop new fields of research. To identify and consolidate research potential and needs, the TRN creates space for closer networking and in-depth exchange, such as during a two-day retreat in October 2025. In further workshops and meetings in 2026, the TRN will prepare a joint publication as well as an interdisciplinary research proposal. Furthermore, the TRN supports initiatives to increase the visibility of Gender & Queer Studies at Heidelberg University, for example through events such as the Queer & Gender Studies Science Slam or the Heidelberg Gender Lectures.
