Aspects Religion and worldview
Religion and non-religion or worldviews are central identity markers for many people and are perceived as core components of personal life organisation and self-development -- and are legally protected as such.

Precisely because (non-)religion is highly personal, people are affected at their core whenever the crucial question arises. This involvement - whether positive or negative - ensures that a ‘neutral’ discussion of the topic is difficult in any case. Dealing neutrally with (non-)religion on a personal level is also difficult because the topic of religion often touches on other aspects of diversity. UNIFY therefore understands the topic of (non-)religion and worldviews primarily against the background of an intersectional approach. It is even more difficult to clearly delimit the topic than other aspects of diversity. What is also clear, however, is that Heidelberg University is an ideologically neutral place, and discrimination on the basis of (non-)religion or ideology is unacceptable. This applies in particular to anti-Semitic or anti-Muslim discrimination. UNIFY, Heidelberg University's central unit against discrimination and in favour of diversity, stands between personal concern and structural neutrality, mediating and providing information.
