KidsClub KidsClub
The university's KidsClub is a place where the children of researchers who come to Heidelberg University for a guest stay can spend time and make new friends. A backup service is also offered there. If required and if space is available, children of conference participants can also be looked after at the centre. A team of multilingual educators and caregivers lovingly look after the children aged one to six years - playing, crafts and excursions are part of the daily programme.
Visiting scholars with child(ren)
- Concept: The children of visiting scholars aged between one and six are looked after here. The KidsClub is a short-term childcare facility, i.e. a stay there is limited to a maximum of 3 months, unless there are still places available.
- Childcare hours: Monday to Friday 8.30 am - 4 pm/ by the hour (open all year round from Monday to Friday; with the exception of public holidays and the bridging days between the years)
- Fees (applicable to university members and employees of other academic institutions): If the institute covers the costs, a fee of €20 per child per hour will be charged. If you pay the costs yourself, the fee is €5 per child per hour. Regardless of who covers the costs, childcare outside the regular hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) is subject to an additional fee of €20 per hour.
- Registration: Registration takes place directly via the KidsClub. Please fill in the form (see right) and send it by e-mail to the KidsClub. You can also contact KidsClub by telephone if you have any questions about childcare or availability.
- Payment: After the childcare has been provided, the Service for Families will send you an invoice by e-mail. We do not need confirmation of payment from you.

Backup service
- Concept: The KidsClub backup service offers university members short-term childcare for children between the ages of one and six in the event of special childcare needs, e.g. in unforeseen situations and emergencies. Children can be looked after at short notice for hours, days or even weeks (e.g. until another form of childcare can be found).
- Childcare hours: Monday to Friday 8.30 am - 4 pm
- by the hour (at least 3 hours; mornings, afternoons or full days)
- for full-day care, a maximum of two consecutive days
- open all year round from Monday to Friday; with the exception of public holidays and bridge days between the years - Fees: €10 per child per hour for members of the university, Heidelberg University of Education (PH Heidelberg), and external participants. If the institute covers the costs on your behalf, a fee of €20 per child per hour will be charged. Regardless of who covers the costs, childcare outside the regular hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) is subject to an additional fee of €20 per hour.
- Registration: Registration takes place directly via the KidsClub. Please complete the form (see right) and send it to the KidsClub by e-mail. You can also contact KidsClub by telephone if you have any questions about childcare or availability.
- Payment: Please transfer the amount for childcare to the account of Universität Heidelberg before you bring your child to the childcare centre. On the first day of childcare, show the KidsClub staff the transfer receipt in digital form and hand in the registration form. Cash payment is not possible!

By car:
- From Mannheim/Frankfurt: Take the A5 to the Heidelberg interchange (Heidelberger Kreuz), then continue on the A656 towards Heidelberg. At the end of the motorway, follow the signs for “Universität im Neuenheimer Feld.” After crossing the Neckar Bridge, turn left towards “Chirurgie.” Pass through the barrier and then, after the DKFZ, turn right towards the cafeteria (Mensa).
- From Karlsruhe: Take the A5 to the Heidelberg/Schwetzingen exit, then continue towards Heidelberg and follow the signs for “Universität im Neuenheimer Feld.” After crossing the Neckar Bridge, turn left towards “Chirurgie.” Pass through the barrier and then, after the DKFZ, turn right towards the “Mensa.”
By bus: From Heidelberg Central Station (Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof), take bus line 31 towards “Neuenheimer Feld.” You can get off at either “Campus Im Neuenheimer Feld” or “Uni Campus.”
Parking: Several visitor parking facilities are available near the KidsClub, including the Zoo car park, Mathematikon car park, and the Universitätsklinikum P160 car park.
